Rellie M. Goddard (she, her)
I study the mechanical properties and microstructures of major rock-forming minerals within Earth’s lithosphere. My PhD focused on measuring the strength of natural and synthetic geological materials composed of multiple minerals to assess the strength of tectonic fault zones. Since then my research has focused on exploring the fundamental properties of quartz, a major component of the continental crust, and using my background in experimental rock deformation and micromechanics to push forward our understanding of metal deportment in deformed sulphides. Overall, I’ve worked on increasing our fundamental understanding of deformation in lower-crustal (and mantle) rocks.
